Positive Art Questionaire

Journal Entry: Sat Jun 7, 2008, 1:10 PM
Because I can, you know.

1. What do you like about your style?
2. Which is the most popular deviation in your gallery? Why do you think people like it so much? What do YOU like about it?
3. Pick one of your least popular deviations. What are the things you like about it, despite the lack of popularity?
4. Which is your favorite picture, concept- or idea-wise? Would you ever revisit this idea and try to make a new picture based on it again?
5. Do you have a favorite quickie? What are the things you like about it?
6. Do you have a favorite piece that involved tons of time and effort?
7. Lastly, pick your top favorite image in your gallery. (If you picked this picture in any of the previous answers, please pick the next favorite or something.) Why do you like it so much?

1. What do you like about your style?
I have a tendancy to mimic art forms and color schemes that I like, but I'm unable to duplicate them exactly, instead synthesizing them into my own work. I really like that, because I don't have to fear that I'm just duplicating someone else's ideas, and that instead I'm synthesizing all the things I love. On that note, I love how my style evolves based on what I'm into. My older stuff is softer and more anime-esque, where my newer stuff is more painterly, more abstract, and moving towards realism. My colors are also migrating towards more earthy tones.

2. Which is the most popular deviation in your gallery? Why do you think people like it so much? What do YOU like about it?

Well, this picture is 3.5 years old, from when I was 14. I suppose I really like that people liked my art so much then XD To be honest, I think it's so popular because three clubs chose to feature it, and, well, the publicity boosted the views and faves. However, considering my second most popular deviation is the same color scheme and a similar fairy character, I would say this color scheme and my whimiscal nature are appealing. I still really love the outfit she's wearing, and I do love the warm colors. I may redo the image.

3. Pick one of your least popular deviations. What are the things you like about it, despite the lack of popularity?

I really really love the color on this one. Both the scheme and how strong it is. While the composition isn't great, there was a lot of emotion put into this piece, a lot of released pain, and for that reason both the image and the character are dear to me.

4. Which is your favorite picture, concept- or idea-wise? Would you ever revisit this idea and try to make a new picture based on it again?

This is a tough one for me. I really like the concept on the first one tot eh point of caring for someone so much that they literally light you and your life up. I've been playing with it for a long time and will probably continue to as long as I find beauty in love.

As far as characters go, the second is definitely one of my fave concepts. He's the sandman, I mean, come on. I actually am seriously considering revamping him. I love the red, and the night, and the fact that he helps people sleep, which in turn helps heal them. Sleep and dreaming and guardians are just fascinatingly lovely concepts to me.

5. Do you have a favorite quickie? What are the things you like about it?

I did this one afternoon in the week I had an opencanvas free trial (I have money to buy the program now...remind me to do that). I was just playing with tools and kind of let my hand do what it wanted. I really love the colors and the flow, and just the easy, sketchy feeling of concept-style art. I really love TCTNW, and this captured the forlorn, sweet, quietly happy nature of it.

6. Do you have a favorite piece that involved tons of time and effort?

This was my first long piece and is still one of my favorites. I invested about 18 hours into it, fueled by my passionate infatuation for the first boy I went out with, although I think I was just in love with the idea of being wanted. I worked so hard to get texture into this piece (something I've failed to recreate since) an have an interesting, synthesized foreground and background as well as color scheme. I worked hard on the anatomy too (I was fourteen when I drew this) and it really paid off. This was one of the first pieces where I started incorporating my love of clean lines, linear patterns, and painterly effects.

7. Lastly, pick your top favorite image in your gallery. (If you picked this picture in any of the previous answers, please pick the next favorite or something.) Why do you like it so much?

First off I just love Hikiu because everyone (in his world) hates him so much, and I respect him for holding out and remaining hopeful. I love this picture because it was one of the first that I really got the painted style down, and I love the fading into the background, and the color makes me very happy. The composition was more interesting than a lot of my torso shots, and I really love his lips =P

I just love every one of your pictures, they are all full of details and not simple (like mine *cough*). And you're so creative for concepts!
